Wamego Invite Results

What a great effort from Hayden runners! On Saturday, there were huge improvements from the first meet, and excellent efforts all around.

Particularly notable were five medals on the boys' varsity and JV side, with a second place finish from Tanner; this also resulted in a fifth place finish for the boys varsity team. On the girls' side, every girl had an enormous drop in time from last meet, from two and a half to as many as eight minutes!

Week Two of Practice

Hi runners,

I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend from school.

Practice this week will be at the following times (this will be the norm for the foreseeable future, unless otherwise indicated):

Monday, Aug. 26th -- 3:30pm - 5pm @ Hayden
Tuesday, Aug. 27th -- 3:30pm - 5pm @ Hayden
Wednesday, Aug. 28th -- 3:30pm - 5pm @ Hayden
Thursday, Aug. 29th -- 3:30pm - 5pm @ Hayden
Friday, Aug. 30th -- 3:30pm - 5pm @ Hayden (possibly a shorter practice, will announce at practice this week)

Saturday, Aug. 31st -- (optional) volunteer at Topeka to Auburn half marathon; meet at 6:30 at Indian Hills Elementary and pass out water at aid stations. Free pancake breakfast and T-shirts for volunteers!

Practice will be outside every day unless there are thunderstorms in the area, so be sure to bring appropriate workout clothes (including rain gear, if necessary).

As we continue to delve into the school year, it is important to focus on the following:

  1. Hydration: be sure to bring a water bottle to school (and practice), and hydrate frequently.
  2. Watch: please bring a watch to practice every day; runners will not be allowed to run off-campus without a watch. It does not need to be fancy or have a GPS; it just needs to tell time. You can find minimalist athletic watches for $10-$15 on Amazon, Target, or Walmart.
  3. Nutrition: eat a good breakfast and lunch every day! If you are not eating enough, you will be more tired when running and will not recover as quickly.
  4. Sleep: sufficient sleep will allow your body to recover from workouts. Not sleeping enough during the season can hurt your running ability and overall health.

ALSO: There's an upcoming fundraiser at Chipotle for cross country/track and field combined. It will be Monday September 9th from 4-8pm. 33% of mention sales will be donated to XC & TF.
